[ microphone noise ] give them a theological background of understanding who god is. we are giving them hands-on experience of being able to be in the gym working with kids and sharing the gospel of jesus christ. >>amy: that is beautiful. wow! how has it changed your life? >> it gave me a lot of perspective on how to understand the community and it helped me grow as a youth worker and understand how to work with the kids. >>amy: wow! isn't that beautiful? i think it is so interesting because it really equips youngsters to do ministry anywhere. suffers like we want to keep folks like alyssa has been south. i just want to help you have that ministry perspective it comes to dealing individuals. >> this is that our hope is that we prepare them to be missionaries anywhere in the world. they could use this honestly and selfishly. >>amy: you heard me say that. >> we would love to have them on full-time. obviously that takes funding so we are looking for ways to build a program and better find it and better bring people in. hopefully we can recruit people across the nation to come here and go to the program so when they are out of college they can come to memphis and learn what it means to work with inner-city youth be it chicago or atlanta anywhere in the u.s. and have that foundation and hopefully, they fall in love with the midsouth in the 901 and they stay here. >>amy: that has happened. i talked to a coach probably a month and a half ago that i think was from the chicago area. she said she just loved it so much. what has it meant to you to see these kids, you know, see their eyes light up and see them when, you know, when you are working with them. these kids that mam works with are all inner-city kids. >> i think the greatest part about it is when a kid understand something when we talk in bible study or even life skills. you see her face light up and you tell them they got the right answer. these kids are not believed in and did not have the support so being able to give that to those kids and see it on their face, it is so rewarding just in those small moments. >>amy: parting words? >> for me i grew up in the inner city like most of these kids. it is really humbling and just to get the hope that you are impacting their lives. >>amy: wow! that is awesome. that is a beautiful story. anybody who knows me knows that i love memphis athletic ministries. i am going to do a shameless plug for you guys because i know you are always looking for volunteers. i know you are always looking for funds to continue the incredible work you do. they are bringing the hands and feet of jesus. so please join them on their mission. helped him support people and students there working with and, torres ' program. you
