Small Business Saturday 11-25-17 Sun, 26 Nov 2017 04:42:22 +0000 Small Business Saturday 11-25-17 Small Business Saturday 11-25-17 KQTV away, and small businesses say they're ready for the holiday season... good evening, i'm brooke anderson. millions of shoppers flooded big retail stores yesterday for black friday, but today people were shopping local. i spoke to a few local store owners in town to find out what makes small business saturday special to them. << brooke anderson reportskris koffman and her husband todd opened their local business -- nesting goods -- almost three years ago...sot kris koffman, nesting goods co-owner ("we decided to do this because we love to create, and we really like one of a kind items.") items like paintings, homemade soaps and hand crafted funishings and home decor... sot kris hoffman ("we started with just ourselves and one of my sisters, and we slowly added artists over time until we're what you see today.")but nesting goods isn't the only locally owned store in town with a unique story. on small business saturday, many of these stores found themselves in the spotlight with hundreds of customers walking through their doorssot casey wallerstedt, owner mod podge ("it's been really really busy so...we've been on our toes and trying to help everybody.") local business owners say it's great to see all the community support sot casey wallerstedt ("you know, to just keep the money here in the community and to spread the word and show people that you can find awesome stuff in st. joe.")in fact, one couple who shopped local says they found several of their holiday gifts in st. joesot michele and randy schultz, shoppers ("we are supporting the economy. i can't tell you because they're gifts. we can't look too-you know, but our kids will see them on christmas day.")the national retail federation says nearly a quarter of all holiday shoppers are planning on doing their holiday shopping at local businesses sot randy & michele schultz, local shoppers ("most people that own businesses down here have a passion for what they do, and we like to support that. to spend local - stays local.")koffman says she loves to see all of the supportsot kris koffman ("we are in our city. we live here, and we work and live in the community. so, this is where you're keeping your money.") >> the national retail federation says 71 million people were expected to shop today in support of small business
