Jordan Lamers reports Fri, 08 Dec 2017 00:03:31 +0000 Net Neutrality Protest Jordan Lamers reports WFRV a vote in one week could change the internet as we know it... as the federal communications commission discusses a modification to net neutrality rules. today... protesters in the fox valley spoke out against the possible changes. local 5's jordan lamers joins us live in appleton with the reason why. thanks erin.... we're here at pierce park where a marching protest in appleton has been started .... that will continue through the city of appleton... ending up at houdini plaza. this vote coming up is expected to end these regulations set back in 20-15... that prohibits internet service providers such as verizon, comcast, and at&t.... to have the power to interfere with the websites we use everyday.... such as netflix, google, and youtube. a change to the net neutrality rules.... means these companies could charge more for users to see content... slow down or completely block users from certain websites or apps. protesters here say this would take away our free speech with the internet. "i see this is a problem because i love the open and accessibility of the internet i love the information i'm able to obtain without large sums of money, and to me, this is about protecting the working class people in america. it's about protecting the poor. it's about protecting the people who don't have the money to buy lots and lots of information." this vote from the f-c-c is expected to take place on december 14th of next week. live in appleton, jordan lamers, local five news.
