http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7212514?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Fri, 15 Dec 2017 23:23:02 +0000 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: #11 LOCAL BASEBALL PROS 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: #11 LOCAL BASEBALL PROS http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7212514?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WBRE ((robin))our annual "12 days of christmas" countdown rolls on as we take a look at 12 local sports stories that defined 2017. tonight, it's time for story number 11 -- which focuses on p-n-c field, but it doesn't have anything to do with the railriders. a-j donatoni explains.obviously it was great to see our scranton wilkes-barre railriders win another division title and advance to the governor's cup finals again -- but this is all about a few baseball players who were merely ávisitorsá to moosic.we watched this summer as 3 local kids turned professionals came through p-n-c field as triple-a ballplayers. there was matt wotherspoon, former railrider and crestwood grad, who came back as a member of the norfolk tides. as a relief pitcher, wotherspoon appared in 17 games with norfolk, going 3-1 with a 2.20 e-r-a. mike papi of tunkhannock also visited with the columbus clippers. papi won a national title at the university of virginia and his success has carried over into the pros. with the clippers, he drove in 18 runs in his first 37 games at the triple-a level.and finally, pitcher kyle mcmyne visited town with the louisville bats. mcmyne has since been released by the cincinnati reds but enjoyed some success while in triple-a. he compiled a 4-1 record out of the bullpen in 41 games for louisville.it's been a crazy journey, even going to villanova and getting to see the world. living in a small town like old forge, you don't see a lot of places. then the first place i go to is billings, montana. lot different. ever since then it's been a great experience, learning, becoming a better pitcher, seeing different things, and growing as a person as well.watching our local guys come through town just one step from major league baseball was a pretty cool part of the summer -- and chances are, we'll be seeing them again soon, either in moosic, or in the big leagues. for eyewitness sports, i'm a-j donatoni.
