SRHS "shoe boxing" items for veterans

By Clip Syndicate
This holiday season, Singing River Health Systems wants the community’s help spreading Christmas cheer to those in need. Their shoebox donation drive is aimed at homeless veterans in the area as well as those in local nursing homes. The items needed are health and comfort items like food, clothing, and toiletries, but they’ll also accept books, games, and anything that could be useful to those veterans that are weathering the winter conditions without shelter. It is recommended that each shoe box that is donated should have a total value of about $20. Singing River Health System Foundation Executive Director Laura Sessum said “This Christmas season, when we were looking at which way we’re going to try to help our community, we thought we would try to target our veterans and we wanted to help veterans that are local and so this is how the idea came about from Operation Shoebox which is more of an international type of drive usually, but we wanted to do it locally.” Boxes can be dropped off at either Singing River Hospital location by December 20th.
