for the first time ... customers can customize any drink in a whole new way. coming up in sports ... a bronx reunion presented by mattingly charities is more than just a get together for former yankee greats. we give you a full recap of what the organization is doing to help under-privileged youth in the tri-state. that's next on 44news at 10. don mattingly spends his off-season in his hometown of evansville ... away from the miami marlins. but it's just for a few short months and he's using this time to make it all about the kids across the tri-state. sports director jojo gentry has the story. nat: once a year maybe....but you're not (laughs) it's not very often former yankees teammates don mattingly and bernie williams get to see each other. and of all places - they meet again in evansville.. bernie: i had a little bit of a rough time in the club house being a new guy and a lot of veterans gave me a lot of tough love....and uh (laughs) but don was there for the four-time world series champ. so this time around in 20-18's "a bronx reunion"... bernie goes to bat for don to help under-served youth in the tri-state. don: i think our town is growing. i see our downtown area getting better and better. a lot more going on. but i think we all still have to keep continuing to help those kids be a part of that growth. that's what led don to create mattingly charities... an organization that gives local kids, who may not have the same opportunities as others, a chance to immerse themselves in the community. jerad: getting the call from him to help support him and to mingle with these people and to help out and what he's doing in the community is huge. for some, that kind of support may be the only driving factor for success. that drives straight home for bernie williams. bernie: my mother was an educator for 40 years in the public education system in puerto rico. and academics were a huge factor in our household. we grew up poor and even though she was an educator, teachers weren't really making as much. and they're still not. they're the most under-rated profession ever. it's all music to his ears now. after his baseball career, bernie is a classically trained guitarist. now, bernie goes to bat for these young vocalists - (jeri-co) wright and roger keene. nat: hallelujah (once then don's sot overlaps) don: same opportunities as far as access to different things so that's one of the areas that i hope we can continue to grow and that our charity can be a part of. and you may just never know how much it means to go to bat for someone who needs another swing. jojo gentry 44-sports. in high school basketball ... full court 44 is heating up with the s-i-a-c tournament starting this week ... and this time around we take a look at two of the first round games. first up are the castle boys ... taking on mater dei. and as you would expect ... junior guard alex hemenway made an impact early. this is him finishing the fast break ... and giving the knights a seven to four lead. and here is hemenway again ... showing he can move without the ball ... and that leads to an easy bucket. but mater dei hanging around early. sam fulton showing he can compete with the castle bigs ... going up for two points. castle would go on to win however ... pulling away later in the game for a 68 to 49 victory. next up is harrison. as for the girls game ... the wildcats kept in close through three quarters. but ... when it came down to the end of the game ... the knights were able to pull away. castle too much inside for mater dei ... an offensive rebound ... and they draw a foul. the knights hitting on the perimeter as well for a strong fourth quarter and a win castle stays undefeated with a 52-33 victory ... as they advance to the next round and play north. and the semifinals for the girls are thursday ... while the boys play friday. ice isn't everyones favorite part of the winter-- but some musicians ... are using it to make music. we'll show you next. but first.. here's what's coming up on the late show with stephen colbert. a group of musicians from norway are using musical instruments made of ice. they performed a concert in northern russia. the musicians say... the instruments were made from frozen water... taken from a local lake. and this particular water ... gives the instruments a very clear distinctive sound. given the low temperatures in northern russia in winter ... ice is widely used for creating sculptures. final weather toss... that's our time for this ááááday night...remember, 44 news is always on at wevv.com, facebook and twitter for the latest overnight news join 44news this
