Governor Phil Bryant invited leaders from Israel in attendance to share to share ideas regarding border patrol. “Israel has shown the world that you can secure borders and you can do so with the use of technology as well as the new advanced structures.” Defense along the Arctic Ocean was a topic discussed at the summit. U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Paul Zukunft brought up cutters, any ship that’s longer than 65 feet in length, and it’s importance protecting the homeland. “We got nearly two hundred in our Coast Guard inventory and we have ships deployed all around the world.” Admiral Zukunft also addressed how cyber-attacks are a persistent threat to our country. “We are working with industry of how to safeguard their cyber-systems from intrusions as we look at the proliferation of the internet and things in this world.” The University of Southern Mississippi has a building in Gulfport that will open in a month which will be a source for ocean engineering and maritime systems. “We work very closely with defense at our university with doing research and development work. So, we are keen supporters of everything that is going on.” Governor Bryant says homeland defense and international partnerships make the Gulf Coast a safer place to live. “We believe that peace depends on a strong military and having good relationships with our partners around the world.”
