Hayden Jones' Journey to Pro Baseball Prospect Sat, 12 May 2018 02:29:30 +0000 Hayden Jones' Journey to Pro Baseball Prospect Hayden Jones' Journey to Pro Baseball Prospect WFFT hey good eveing everyone.. welcome inside the locker room..alongside my partner petar hood, my name is justin prince..coming up on tonight's show, we'll preview the western conference finals for the fort wayne komets..we'll dive into all things tincaps, as we do every week on tinchattin..but we begin this evening on the high school baseball diamond.. j-prince, imagine being 18 years old and being faced with this delima.. you can go to college, get your education, and play baseball at one of the best schools in the country.. but if you choose to do so, you could potentially be turning down hundreds of thousands of dollars with no guarantee that you'll have an opportunity to make that kinda money again.. that's a tough decision to make, but it's a good problem to have if you're carroll high school senior hayden jones.. narr: hayden jones was practically born with a bat in his hands..ánat sound- bat poppingáken jones: "i can remember when he was three or four years old, he'd be out with the guys.. be dressed up full uniform, running around.. so he was always involved in it.."narr: for the son of a former pro baseball player and the grandson of a hall of fame high school coach, it was obvious ealry on.. hayden was destined to be diamond..hayden jones: "when i was eight, i started playing with 10 year olds as an eight year old.. that's the biggest time that i think i saw that what i truly loved was baseball."ken jones: "i knew he was always going to be athletic. he always wanted to be out either throwing the football, shooting hoops.. swing the bat.. he just liked being active in sports. i could see early on that he was going to be pretty decent at baseball.. did i think he was going to be this good? you hope, but you never know." narr: turns out, dad was right.. as hayden got older, he turned out to be pretty decent.. and then pretty decent turned in to really good.. so good that some of the best college programs in the country began to take notice.. mississippi state.. hayden jones: "biggest thing is playing in the sec.. it's the top baseball conference you can be in. with the fanbase, the stadium is packed every single game, whether it's weeknight or weekend.. and it's family based, so whether you go 0-for-4 or 4- for-4, they're going to be there to support you no matter what."narr: hayden was sold on starkville.. he signed with the bulldogs in november.. with big time college baseball on the horizon, hayden focused in on his senior year.. with jones leading the way, carroll has been one of the best teams in the state in 2018.. and pro scouts have taken notice..dave gindar: "hayden has been tremendous. obviously his skills and ability speak for themselves, and he's worked hard for that. he's done everything we have asked of him. offensively he's been tremendous. his defense and arm strength behind the plate kind of speak for itself.."ken jones: "his defensive ability is well above most kids from a catching standpoint at the high school level.. his hitting ability is pretty good. from the pro scouts that we've talked to, they say his defense is as good as there is around right now."narr: and he's hitting it pretty darn well too.. through 22 games, jones sports a batting average above .500 to go along with eight homers and 25 knocked in..hayden jones: "most of my homeruns in the past years have either been center, opposite field, left center, really.. and so, this year we worked on inside pitch mainly.. like that's all they're going to throw me. and now, it's i know that's coming. i know it's a curveball inside or a fastball inside.. really it's just exploding through it and getting those hands in is what we worked on."narr: the hard work paid off.. and now in about a month, hayden will be left with a choice that all high school players dream of... go to college, or go pro..gindar: "we're excited for him.. whatever he chooses will be the right decision, and he and his family will make those decisions.. and we'll sit back and watch and say, "he once was a charger" and be happy for him."ken jones: "i think he could easily be a top-five round guy.. but it's going to come down to how much they're willing to invest in him to give him the secuirty needed to push him up through the system."hayden jones: "i never would have thought that i would be at that ability to play at that level.. and now seeing it come to reality, and be able to weight the two out.. it's going to be very hard to walk away from something that could be very special in my life, to something else that could be extremely special in my life, being that they're both very close to being the best things in the world." áad-lib toss to mic'd up segmentá 3 3
