http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12516/7378507?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Tue, 26 Jun 2018 03:26:17 +0000 Papito Goes Pro McAllen Golfer Headed Overseas http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12516/7378507?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KRGV he was a good golfer at the high school level, where he got to state. after that, he had success at the collegiate level. and now, papito gonzalez has taken the next step in his golf career. he's gone pro. i caught up with gonzalez this afternoon. swing after swing after swing papito gonzalez has taken thousands of swings. as a matter of fact, when he was just 9 years old, gonzalez made his 1st hole in one. and maybe that's why it's no surprise he wound up playing for u of h. papito gonzalez: "university of houston has 16 national championships. that's the most in the country. it's kind of cool to be a part of that legacy." as a sophomore, gonzalez was part of a cougar team that made the ncaa championships. that was one of the highlights of gonzalez's 5 year career at u of h. papito gonzalez: "i got to travel to some cool places. i got to play golf in bunch of different states. i got to go to canada to play. i got to go to mexico. i'm very blessed to be in the position i'm in right now." after graduating recently, gonzalez is now a pro golfer. he played his first tourney just two weeks ago in kansas. papito gonzalez: "i think that's the biggest difference for me. i get a check at the end of the week." and there's more on the way. papito gonzalez: "the next couple of months i'm just going to play some state opens and adams tour events. i've got an event in iowa and then an event in california." that's why the practice never stops. papito gonzalez: "trying to see where it's going to break. right now i'm going to play it left edge. hit it pretty firm. hit it up the hill. it should break left to right. i got it." in september, gonzalez will attend q-school overseass where he hopes to catch on with the european tour. and if that goes well, gonzalez says he'll set his sights on the ultimate dream of reaching the pga. papito gonzalez: "i'm excited just for the whole journey and the process of going through mini tours and grinding it all out. hopefully i can look back and see that it all paid off and i'll be on the pga tour." in the meantime, gonzalez says he'll keep on swinging and aiming for the cup. at
