http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12451/7398364?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Mon, 13 Aug 2018 03:19:42 +0000 WTVA Sunday night sportscast August 12, 2018 http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12451/7398364?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WTVA ABC Tupelo, MS by the altar. the bruce trojans enter the 2018 season knowing they'll have to work to win. bruce is coming off a 2-9 season in 2017. clint faust enters his second season as bruce's head coach. the trojans return eight starters on defense on 9 on offense. sophomorequarterbackjay collins will run the trojans offense this year. bruce lost to independence 14-0 in a friday jamboree. the trojans open the season on august 17th at home against aberdeen. bruce is a young team, but head coach clint faust likes that some of the young guys have been pushing the older guys this summer. clint faust: 'just from the offseason, 7-on-7 workouts, weights, even in the first couple weeks of practice, we're really competing for different spots. young guys are pushing some of the old guys. i just really like the competition we've had so far.' jay collins: 'we work good. everybody's showing up to workouts. the seniors want to win the championship so we gotta get it for them.' the hamilton lions are trending in the right direction. last season the lions finished 5-6 and narrowly missed the playoffs coming out of the deep region 3-1a. josh baty enters his 4th season coaching the lions. hamilton opens the season at coldwater on friday. the lions have 9 starters returning, of course many of those guys play on both sides of the ball. including offensive and defensive lineman laderrick despenza... despenza recently received a d1 offer from maryland, and has garnered serious interest from ole miss and the louisiana rajin cajuns. despenza described the feeling of receiving that first d1 offer. laderrick despenza: 'i was surprised and amazed when they offered me. i was glad, and everybody else around me was too. it's a real good feeling. everyday when i was little i always wanted to play football and hopefully go somewhere where i can play d1 and be real good at it.' there's a big debate raging in denver and among broncos fans. the question is, who should be case keenum's back up, chad kelly or paxton lynch? kelly made a strong case for himself last night in denver. the broncos opened up pre- season play against the minnesota vikings. case keenum struggled with the starters, paxton lynch struggled with the second team offense, but chadkelly was electricwith the third teamers. the former ole miss quarterback went 14-21 for 177 yards and two touchdowns. now kellydid throw a 4th quarter interception that led to a minnesota touchdown. the vikings won 42-28. after the game, broncos head coach vance joseph was still non-committal about swapping kelly and lynch on the depth chart. as for kelly, don't tell him it's just a preseason game. chad kelly: 'i wanted to win this game. i don't really care about all that man. there' s a lot of things we can get better at, and a lot of good things that came from this game so it's a learning experience first game in 646 days. i'm excited to have this opportunity to be on a great team.' 646 days between games for chad kelly. it's been 3,707 days since tiger woods lastwon a major golf tournament. tiger began the final round of the pga championship four shots behind leader brooks koepka. tiger once againthrilled the crowds at the bellerive country club in st louis. woods pours in a birdie putt on 18 to shoot 64 and finish 14 under. but, brooks koepka remained a steady eddy. he birdies 15 andshoots 66 to win by two over tiger. brooks koepka becomes the first golfer since tiger woods in 2000 to win the u.s. open and the pga championship in the same season. the tupelo 49ers fall to louisiana 7-2 at the american legion mid-south regional.
